About Fiona
Fiona originally gained a BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry with Industrial Experience, but following time in labs returned to care work, which she had done part time in sixth form. After working as a PA for people with spinal cord injury, she trained as a physiotherapist and has been qualified for over 20 years.
She completed a range of rotations as a junior physiotherapist at Royal Derby Hospital, before moving to specialise in Musculoskeletal conditions and hydrotherapy. She has always been interested in chronic conditions and those who don't progress in rehab as expected which led to an NHS specialism in chronic pain; and she continues to work in the NHS as an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist in Chronic Pain. For this role she has obtained masters modules in Reasoning and Management for Advanced MSK Clinical Practice and Radiographic Image Analysis of the Appendicular Skeleton and can refer for imaging and bloods where appropriate. So you can be assured of the highest standard of assessment, and also the knowledge to direct you elsewhere when appropriate.
She takes a holistic approach to all conditions, with family health issues leading her to explore lifestyle and integrative medicine, including attending the national Integrative Medicine Conference and will be training in Nutritional Therapy for Health Professionals from January 2026.
She has worked with Ruth at the Fit Pit since 2014 providing physiotherapy for a range of conditions, massage and Pilates (both 1:1 and classes). She has continued to update her Pilates training attending various courses and conferences including ante/postnatal, kids and teens, neurological conditions and hypermobility; this ensures she is well equipped to personalise your own practice and rehab.
Outside work she is kept busy with a 16 year old daughter who enjoys having massage and 1:1 Pilates training as she is about to start vocational dance training. Fiona tries to put her treatment approaches into personal practice trying to find some balance between activity and meditation practices. She is a second degree black belt in Tetsudo and helps run a club as well as maintaining her own training. She particularly enjoys time outside; relaxing, walking and running in the Peaks and is currently training to do the Welsh 3000's.
