Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Traditional and modern acupuncture techniques for pain relief and wellness

Acupuncture treatment

About Acupuncture

This is an add-on to our standard Physiotherapy treatment sessions. Acupuncture is used to predominantly reduce pain, muscle spasm, improve sleep, reduce stress/anxiety and improve circulation and healing.

Three Forms of Acupuncture

There are 3 forms of acupuncture that could be used:

Eastern Perspective

Utilising meridian pathways throughout the body to achieve system balance, increasing circulation, energy flow, pain relief and deep relaxation.

Western Perspective

Treatment approaches considering our modern biomedical understanding of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry.

Trigger Point and Myofascial Pain

Caused by new or old injuries, improper or over-training, incorrect posture or body mechanics, or just life. Acupuncture returns the natural balance to your muscles.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling focuses on musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction by targeting trigger points in muscles.

It involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into trigger points—tight bands of muscle or knots that can cause pain or limit movement. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based on modern anatomical and neurophysiological principles. The goal is to release muscle tension, improve blood flow, and reduce pain by targeting specific areas of muscular tightness. This technique is often used to treat conditions like chronic back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, and tension headaches.
