Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our treatments and services

What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a specialised form of massage therapy designed for active individuals and athletes. It helps prevent injuries, aids recovery, and enhances performance through targeted techniques that address specific muscle groups and movement patterns.

How often should I get a sports massage?

For heavy training, we recommend sports massage every 1-3 weeks. For moderate training and injury prevention, every 3-6 weeks is typically sufficient. The frequency can be adjusted based on your individual needs and how your body responds to treatment.

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage targets deeper muscle layers and connective tissue to relieve chronic tension and pain. It uses slower strokes and more intense pressure than other types of massage to address specific muscle issues and improve flexibility.

Do I need to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage?

No, sports massage benefits anyone experiencing physical tension from daily activities, whether from a physical job, office work, or general lifestyle. It's particularly effective for those with active lifestyles or physically demanding jobs.

What should I expect during my first massage session?

Your first session will begin with a consultation to discuss your needs and any specific issues. The therapist will then develop a treatment plan and explain the techniques they'll use. The massage itself will be tailored to your comfort level and specific requirements.

How long is a typical massage session?

Standard massage sessions are typically 30, 45, or 60 minutes. The duration can be adjusted based on your needs and the areas requiring treatment. We recommend discussing your requirements with your therapist to determine the most appropriate session length.

What should I wear for a massage?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that's easy to remove. You'll be provided with privacy to undress to your comfort level, and you'll be covered with a sheet throughout the session. Most clients choose to remove all clothing except underwear, but this is entirely your choice. Your comfort and privacy are our top priorities.

Is massage therapy painful?

While deep tissue and sports massage can be intense, they shouldn't be painful. Some discomfort might be felt when working on particularly tight areas, but you should always feel in control. Communicate with your therapist about pressure levels to ensure a comfortable experience.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on strengthening the core muscles while improving flexibility, posture, and overall body awareness. It combines controlled movements with breathing techniques to create a mind-body workout that can benefit people of all fitness levels.

Do I need any equipment for Pilates?

While Pilates can be done on a mat with minimal equipment, we provide all necessary equipment in our studio, including reformers, chairs, and small props. For beginners, we recommend starting with mat Pilates to learn the fundamental principles before progressing to equipment-based exercises.

How often should I do Pilates?

For optimal results, we recommend 2-3 Pilates sessions per week. However, even one session per week can provide benefits. The frequency can be adjusted based on your fitness goals, schedule, and how your body responds to the exercises.

Is Pilates suitable for beginners?

Yes, Pilates is suitable for beginners! Our instructors will modify exercises to match your current fitness level and gradually progress as you become stronger. The focus on proper form and technique makes it accessible to people of all abilities.

What should I wear to a Pilates class?

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows for freedom of movement. Avoid loose or baggy clothes as instructors need to see your body alignment. Socks with grip are recommended for safety on equipment. We have changing facilities available.

What is a Pilates reformer?

A Pilates reformer is a specialised piece of equipment that uses springs, pulleys, and a moving carriage to provide resistance and support during exercises. It allows for a wider range of movements than mat Pilates and can be adjusted to accommodate different fitness levels and goals.

What are the benefits of reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates offers numerous benefits including improved core strength, better posture, increased flexibility, and enhanced muscle tone. The equipment provides support for proper alignment while adding resistance to challenge your muscles. It's particularly effective for rehabilitation and can be adapted for all fitness levels.

How is reformer Pilates different from mat Pilates?

While both forms focus on core strength and controlled movements, reformer Pilates uses the resistance of springs and the support of the carriage to enhance exercises. This allows for more variations, greater range of motion, and the ability to work muscles in different ways. The reformer also provides support for proper alignment, making some exercises more accessible.

Do I need to be strong to use the reformer?

No, you don't need to be strong to start reformer Pilates. The equipment can be adjusted to provide appropriate resistance for any fitness level. Beginners often find the reformer helpful as it provides support and guidance for proper form. Our instructors will modify exercises and adjust the spring tension to match your current strength level.

How long is a typical reformer Pilates session?

Our reformer Pilates sessions typically last 50-60 minutes. This includes time for warm-up, the main workout, and cool-down. We also offer shorter 30-minute sessions for those with busy schedules. The session length can be adjusted based on your needs and fitness goals.

What should I expect in my first reformer session?

Your first reformer session will begin with an introduction to the equipment and its basic functions. The instructor will guide you through fundamental movements and proper form. We'll adjust the springs and settings to match your level, ensuring a safe and effective workout. Don't worry if you're new to the reformer - we'll take it step by step.

Can I do reformer Pilates if I have injuries?

Yes, reformer Pilates can be excellent for rehabilitation and injury prevention. The equipment provides support and controlled resistance, making it ideal for gentle strengthening and recovery. However, please inform your instructor of any injuries or conditions before your session so they can modify exercises appropriately.
